Tips For Removing Lice From Your Child's Room

Posted on

If your child should get lice, you might be most worried about his or her hair. You might spend hours going through your child's hair with a fine-toothed comb. You might make your child scrub his or her head several times a day with the anti-lice shampoo. However, all of your efforts might be pointless if you don't get rid of the lice in your child's room. The lice can hide in your child's blankets and stuffed animals for a few days and then reinvade his or her head at night, causing you to have to go through the whole removal process again. Here are some tips for getting rid of the lice that are in your child's room.

1. Dry the Stuffed Animals and Blankets

The first thing that you want to do is wash the stuffed animals and blankets that are in your child's room in the hottest water possible. The reason for this is that the lice cannot withstand intense heat and will die when exposed to it. Once the lice have been washed, you want to put the blankets and stuffed animals in the dryer on the hottest setting possible. This will kill any lice that might have survived the washing machine. Finally, before you take out the stuffed animals, take your vacuum cleaner and vacuum out your dryer to remove all of the bodies of the dead lice.

2. Vacuum Your Child's Room

While you are washing and drying your child's stuffed animals and blankets, you should also be vacuuming his or her room, especially if he or she has to carpet in his or her room. The reason for this is that you want to make sure that you get rid of any lice that might be lurking in the carpeting that could make their way back to the head of your child. Vacuum twice in order to make sure that you've gotten everything. Also be sure that you replace any sheets that might be on your child's bed and vacuum the mattress to kill any lice that might be in there. Remove the bag that is attached to the vacuum immediately while you are outside.
